Ready for your calling? This specialist equipment manufacturer is searching for a well-rounded Support Engineer / Service Engineer to become a Technical Specialist in their technology. (Equipment training provided).

About The Role

Following your training, as a Technical Specialist / Service & Support Engineer, you will be based from my client’s office in Durham and be responsible for:

  • Operating as the equipment expert, providing remote and in-person service support and assistance to the international service engineering team on more complex issues.
  • Troubleshooting, identifying, and resolving equipment hardware issues.
  • Working on a range of equipment with a value from £200K to £2m.
  • Following an initial 6 months of training you will travel to customer sites to support with onsite equipment problems (an average of 30% international travel, usually 2 trips per quarter).
  • Writing, preparing and delivering service training material on newly released equipment to the field service engineering team so they are equipped to service, maintain, fault find, and calibrate equipment.
  • Delivering existing equipment training to new members of the field service team.
  • Ensuring parts are sent on time to the customer site for repairs.
  • Supporting the Field Service Engineers with new equipment installations when needed (2-3 per annum).
  • Handling support calls and emails relating to more challenging issues that the field service team is unable to resolve.
  • Escalating issues when necessary.
  • Initiating remote technical sessions.

About You

You must be willing to travel internationally 30% of the time and possess the following:

  • A minimum of 2-3 years experience servicing and maintaining complex multidisciplinary equipment.  Experience could include both manufacturing / production equipment or scientific instruments. For example, robotics, laser cutting machinery, x-ray equipment, electron microscopy, industrial printers, particle analysis, photonics, spectroscopy, CMM’s or affiliated.
  • A technical education in Engineering or Physics is beneficial, but not essential. As is experience working in the semiconductor industry.
  • A high tolerance to pressure and ability to influence others.
  • Desire to be an expert and take it upon yourself to learn.
  • A fantastic communicator who is comfortable speaking with international clients who are often highly educated (professors etc).
