Field Service Engineer / Product Specialist – Optical Microscopy (CC585)

Location: North West, Yorkshire, Midlands, South East, South West – Home based with up to 85% travel (International & Domestic)          


£34K – £40K Basic + £2-4K Bonus + Company Car (Audi / VW) + Pension + Healthcare + Laptop + Mobile + 25 Days + Public Holidays + Benefits

My client is a global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of scientific / analytical instrumentation for a wide range of applications.

Through organic growth my client wishes to recruit a competent Field Service Engineer / Product Specialist to join their team.


The role will report directly to the Service Manager and be responsible for providing hands on expertise and pre/post-sales technical support across my clients’ high performance instrumentation product range.


This position will require the successful candidate to travel extensively throughout the UK.


Other duties will include:-

  • Providing effective on site customer support including product/system installation and commissioning.
  • Providing site based and remote maintenance (preventative and reactive), fault finding and diagnostic support.
  • Providing post-sales support and training to customers on my client’s products, systems and their correct use.
  • Developing a high level of technical expertise within your assigned product category.
  • Updating and maintaining the troubleshooting database.
  • Submitting accurate and timely service reports.
  • Providing technical pre-sales support to the sales team.
  • Attending and assisting my client at exhibitions and technical workshops.


The ideal candidate will be based within a commutable distance of an airport and possess a competent understanding of Nano surfaces measurement solutions gained through industry or education.


All candidates must hold a valid UK driving license and be educated to a minimum of degree level within Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or an affiliated discipline. Other qualifications that would be considered include a degree within electronic, electrical or mechanical engineering.


Along with being technically competent it is essential all candidates possess the interpersonal and communication skills to build lasting relationships through inspiring trust and confidence with customers.


Other key requirements;

  • Ability to take responsibility of the complete installation and commissioning of high specification instrumentation and train users on its basic operation and applications.
  • A logical and methodical approach to fault finding including the use of diagnostic tools such as Oscilloscopes and 3D Optical microscopes.
  • IT Literate.
  • A presentable individual who takes pride in their personal appearance.
